Prey for the Pack has two journeys: reaching Rodge and bringing him back. If your objective says to report to Morris but no useful conversation appears, first establish where Rodge is. Do not assume that surviving the cave means he has automatically reached his grandfather.
Find Rodge without circling the clue area
The quest begins near Morris's Apothecary in Checkpoint Rest Town. Townspeople provide clues, but the destination is Putrid Cave farther east. PowerPyx confirms you can travel directly there rather than finishing every clue conversation. Kill the wolves in the cave, then bring Rodge back to Morris. [1]
The flowers explain the route: GameSpot describes a clue marker that leads to an apparently empty field, followed by more Moonglow flowers extending toward the cave. The first marked area is therefore a waypoint in the investigation, not necessarily the room containing the boy. [2]
This is a timed rescue. VGC describes the failed arrival state as finding scraps instead of Rodge. The sources reviewed do not establish one reliable deadline for every situation, so prioritize the rescue once accepted instead of planning around an invented number of hours. [3]
Keep the return journey together
Windows Central recommends clearing threats on the approach because the return is an escort. Its guide also suggests picking Rodge up if he becomes stuck. If you do carry him, use clear ground rather than an exposed ledge: VGC warns that dropping or losing him near dangerous terrain can end the rescue. [3][4]
Stop periodically and confirm he is still following. Avoid using your pawn's speed as the pace for the child. Near the town entrance, watch him through the final stretch instead of sprinting straight to the shop.
Choose the recovery step that matches what happened

The distinction matters because “Rodge is missing” can mean a follower left behind, a dead NPC, or a rescue that expired before arrival. Repeating dialogue with Morris does not tell you which one happened.
Complete the hand-in
Bring Rodge to the apothecary and talk to Morris. The successful route lists 11,000 gold and two Miracle Roborants. GameSpot explicitly expresses uncertainty about using a Ferrystone with Rodge, so this guide does not depend on that shortcut. [2]
Evidence checked October 16, 2026: this combines published 2024 walkthroughs and their stated recovery cases. We have not personally retested the quest on the current patch. A missing-follower report does not prove a universal bug, and the route does not promise recovery after every failed state.
