Talking to the man in the manor does not finish Brant's investigation. The evidence is below the village. If you have already explored the houses and received a skill reward, check whether you have the Bill of Arrest before making the long return journey.
Start before Feast of Deception
PowerPyx lists Seat of the Sovran and one other Brant objective as the opening requirements. Ask Brant about the false Sovran to begin The Nameless Village, and complete it before Feast of Deception makes the quest unavailable. [1]
If you are planning several Brant tasks together, keep this investigation on the pre-coronation side of that plan. An unavailable quest after advancing the story is a different issue from failing to locate the secret entrance while the quest remains active.
Reach the village around the blocked road
The destination is far east of Vernworth. If the main approach is blocked by rubble, PowerPyx directs players around through Eastern Forest to the south. In the village, the Folded Letter provides the “brass” topic for the man in Old Noble Manor. Exhaust the relevant dialogue, then search just northwest of the manor for the Depths entrance. [1]
Destructoid's author describes waiting for Flaude to move after interpreting a villager's clue as an instruction to follow him, but ultimately progressing by finding the nearby ladder hole instead. [2] If following villagers is getting you nowhere, search the ground beside the manor; the physical entrance is the actionable next landmark.
Cross the trial with the vocation you have
The underground course uses balancing platforms and swinging obstacles. Pro Game Guides recommends timing jumps when the boards rise. Destructoid notes that a Mage or Sorcerer with Levitate can bypass much of the platforming. [2][3]
You do not need to turn this into an equipment-shopping detour. First identify which obstacle stops you: reaching the next platform, waiting for its tilt, or avoiding a swinging weight. Change one part of the movement at a time. If Levitate is already available, it gives another approach; it is not a requirement to change vocation before entering.
Check the evidence before you leave
| What you have done | What remains |
|---|---|
| Questioned villagers or found the letter | Investigate beyond the surface clues. |
| Spoken to Flaude in the manor | Find the ladder into the Depths. |
| Completed the obstacle course | Speak to Srail and finish the quest dialogue. |
| Received a Thief-related reward | Check separately for Darragh's Bill of Arrest. |
| Obtained the Bill of Arrest | Return to Brant and report about the false Sovran. |
Srail explains the pretender's identity and supplies the wanted document. Destructoid identifies that document as the item to return to Brant; PowerPyx emphasizes speaking to the underground master twice and selecting the marked quest topics. [1][2]
The distinction between a skill reward and the investigation evidence is the final travel check: a new ability tells you that part of the encounter succeeded, while the Bill of Arrest is what the quest hand-in needs. Check the item and objective before leaving the village.
