Claw Them Into Shape: Beren, swords, Humphrey and the duel

Do not restart the quest just because Beren knocked you out of the training area. GameSpot and NightlyGamingBinge both state that the quest continues after a loss. The real prerequisites for that match are completing the weapon donation and the recruitment task. ^[1][2]

Find Beren at the correct stage

Start by visiting Moonglow Garden west of Borderwatch Outpost. GameSpot and PCGamesN place Beren there at night. Follow the western road, use the campsite near the bridge as a landmark, then take the path toward the garden. ^[1][3]

PowerPyx instead suggests a morning return when he is absent. ^[4] Because the published timing advice conflicts, use the location together with your quest stage: for the opening conversation try the nighttime garden; after the two errands, look for the training-stage objective at Borderwatch. Check the active objective before treating an empty spot as a broken quest.

Supply three swords without overspending

GameSpot specifies one-handed swords; expensive upgrades are unnecessary. NightlyGamingBinge reports buying three Trusty Swords from Kassandra at Borderwatch Commissary for 850 gold each. ^[1][2] That gives a reported base total of 2,550 gold, but check the price displayed in your own shop before purchasing.

First inspect what you already own. Set aside the weapon you want to keep using, then select the three donation items. The quest asks for usable swords, so do not buy a rare weapon simply because its stats are higher.

Send Humphrey from Vernworth

Humphrey is the motivated recruit. The guides place his approach in Vernworth's Merchant Quarter, around the inn/Vocation Guild area or near Clovis's Barberie. Tell him about Beren. ^[1][4] This is a dialogue referral; the walkthrough does not require you to escort him all the way back.

When you return, finish the sword hand-in and speak to Beren again about the recruit. NightlyGamingBinge specifically notes the second conversation before the invitation to spar. ^[2]

Use your objective to choose the next action

Finish the bout and follow Beren

The duel's goal is a ring-out. Avoid his swings, then use a stagger or throw to move him beyond the boundary; you do not need to kill him. After either outcome, follow the group toward the reported attack and the wounded soldier to finish this quest. ^[1][2]

Claw Them Into Shape is followed by Beren's Final Lesson. GameSpot describes the later Cyclops encounter and eventual visit to his childhood home as separate steps toward the Warrior teaching. Do not expect the entire reward chain to arrive with the first quest-complete notification. ^[1]
