Hal’s Treasure Hunt: Four Posts & the Rusted Ring

Which treasure quest is this?

This is Hal's Treasure Hunt in the English version of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The Japanese guide titled 祖父の宝探し describes the same blacksmith, four posts, cave and Rusted Ring sequence. “Grandfather's treasure hunt” is a translated search phrase, not the English journal title. ^[3][4]

Register the four posts

Start with Hal's accepted quest and its marked search areas. The Click identifies these landmarks: ^[2]

• West: the smallest western search area.
• North: the ruins occupied by Beorcans.
• South: the uphill route near the Riftstone of the Beloved.
• East: the approach to the ruined castle.

Walk up to each post so that the objective registers it. A map marker you placed yourself is not confirmation that you have examined the post. Snow and poor visibility can obscure the objects; The Big Lead recommends checking snowdrifts and waiting for clearer conditions when necessary. ^[1][2]

Find the intersection, then search below it

1. Use the four registered locations to picture an east–west line and a north–south line.
2. Go to their intersection in the snowfield and look for the opening into Snowslide Pass.
3. Search the cave floor, particularly beside the raised rock or platform. The target is a loose ring, not a treasure chest. ^[1]

The Click also describes entering through the cave's northern entrance. That gives you another approach if the surface opening is difficult to identify. Do not assume a drop is harmless: choose a descent that your character can survive. ^[2]

If you are at the marker but cannot find it

A 10 October player thread describes this exact problem: the player reached Snowslide Pass at the midpoint but initially failed to find the ring. That report establishes the confusion, not a separate quest bug. ^[5]

Return the ring to Hal

Bring the Rusted Ring back to Hal, the blacksmith who issued the quest. The Big Lead reports that he restores it into the Frostbright Ring, with protection against freezing and Whiteout-related stamina loss. ^[1] We have not independently tested the ring's numerical effects. Guides also differ on the exact prerequisite for first receiving the quest, so this walkthrough does not prescribe a single unlock checkpoint.
