Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog: unlock the service, then check the gear

Complete Reaching the Far Shore in Norgan, recover the tailoring treatise across the frozen lake, and deliver it to Hal. Native tailoring changes the appearance of eligible relic equipment; owning a base-game appearance does not make every base-game item a valid target.

Two different checks: no Tailor Equipment menu means the quest hand-in is unfinished; one item missing from an unlocked menu can mean that item is ineligible. Check the service before changing your equipment.

Unlock transmog through Reaching the Far Shore

Speak to Jiera in the Norgandian Settlement after advancing Norgan’s story and settlement quests. Published guides disagree about the exact quest boundary: VGC names The Castle in Ice, while AllThingsHow names later story and rebuilding progress. We therefore do not promise that one named main quest alone unlocks the request. If it is absent, inspect unfinished settlement requests and return as the story advances.[1][2]

  1. Accept Reaching the Far Shore from Jiera. She needs a tome from the far side of Lake Norgan.
  2. Visit the Sealed Study, speak to Polyeidus and then Ser Ryatt, and report the lake-crossing clue to Jiera.[2]
  3. Follow the Fimbl quest markers through two encounters around the mountain stronghold. These stages end with the creature retreating; the objective has not failed simply because it escapes.
  4. At Lake Norgan, use the shoreline ballistas to finish the fight. Move to another emplacement if yours is destroyed. The published guides describe the shoreline differently, so follow the quest marker and visible emplacements rather than an unverified compass instruction.[1][3]
  5. Report to Jiera and rest. Wait for the quest update confirming that the lake has frozen, then cross the ice into the Lakeside Grotto and recover the treatise.[3]
  6. Return to Jiera and take the book to Hal. His final conversation unlocks Tailor Equipment; bringing the book only to Jiera is not the final hand-in.[1]

Which equipment can Hal change?

Your goalWhat to check
Keep a relic’s combat effects but change its lookSelect an eligible Norgan relic weapon or armor as the target, then choose an appearance you have collected.
Use a favorite base-game appearanceUse it as the appearance source for eligible relic gear. Source and target have different eligibility rules.
Change a base-game or Lost Rites reward itselfDo not assume it is an eligible target. Published coverage and a player discussion distinguish these items from appraised spoil gear.[3][4]
Wear a newly acquired replacementCheck its appearance again. Players report tailoring applies per item, rather than permanently to the equipment slot.[5]

Hal charges gold for tailoring. Inspect the displayed fee and target before confirming; there is no need to chase an advertised universal price. Tailoring changes appearance rather than providing an extra combat upgrade.[1][3]

If the menu or the look is missing

First separate expansion access, quest completion and item eligibility. If you cannot reach Norgan, use the DLC access checks. If you reached the frozen lake, check that you recovered the book and finished Hal’s conversation. If the menu already works for another relic, troubleshoot the specific target rather than repeating the dragon quest.

A missing-quest player report remains unresolved in the reviewed discussion. It does not establish a universal repair or a requirement to finish the entire DLC.[6] Native tailoring and third-party transmog mods are separate systems; mod claims do not override the native restrictions above.
