VOCATIONS & EQUIPMENT

Armor choices by progress: base game and Dark Arisen

Choose armor you can equip and obtain at your current stage. In the base game, compare ordinary shop gear with Dragonforged purchases; in Norgan, check Hal’s unlocked recipes and warmth separately from Defense.

Base game: do not start with an unavailable endgame set

Prima Games separates pre-endgame shopping from later Wyrmslife Crystal purchases. At the Volcanic Island Armory, its examples include Thrasher’s Surcoat for Fighter, Bestial Boon for Thief and Ares Morpho Robe for casters. Check the vocation icons and your displayed price before buying. [1]

Once the relevant Dragonforged inventory is available, examples include Stygian Omen for Fighter, Dvarapala for Thief and Sacral Robe for Mage. Samurai Gamers lists those bodies at 70 Wyrmslife Crystals each. This is a later spending choice, not an instruction to expect the entire inventory on your first visit. [2]

Dark Arisen: check Hal’s recipe stage

AllThingsHow reports five rows per armor slot after Hammer and Tongs, expanding to eleven after Village Defense. The later list includes unnamed “???” rows whose materials and stat changes are still visible. For physical Defense, its highlighted body recipes are Smithed Ancient Kingdom Plate for Fighter, Warrior and Mystic Spearhand, and Smithed Windclad Deel for Archer, Thief, Magick Archer and Trickster. Smithed Sovran-Sigil Robe is its Magick Defense option for eligible casters and hybrid vocations. [3]

Those are crafting-list comparisons, not a ranking of every relic in the expansion. Open Workshop → Manufacturable Gear and check three things before spending:

  1. Does the current vocation have permission to wear it?
  2. Is the row unlocked, and do you actually have its materials?
  3. Are you comparing the piece's own stats or the preview of your character with it equipped?

The last distinction matters: Hal’s preview includes your character, so copying that number as the item's standalone Defense creates a misleading comparison. [3]

Warmth is a separate decision

AllThingsHow lists both Bloodstained Cloak and Direwolf-Fur Cloak at 50 thermal insulation. It lists the former at 7,000 G plus four Barbarian Armor Fragments and one Rectrix, and the latter at 15,000 G plus ten pelts. They are early crafting options after Hammer and Tongs. A higher price does not automatically buy greater warmth. [4]

Our selection rule is to compare available materials first when two cloaks solve the same warmth problem. Then evaluate combat defenses and weight separately. Do not assume that the largest Defense number also solves Norgan’s environmental exposure.

When to chase a specific rare piece

A named Lost Rites item may have an identifiable chest route, while another high-stat item may lack a documented location. For example, AllThingsHow names Mired Conduit for Plate of the Mad Sovran but leaves the location of its highest-Defense body entry unspecified. A blank location is not a usable farming route. [5]

Use obtainable shop or crafting gear while pursuing a documented upgrade; do not treat an incomplete best-in-slot table as a mandatory shopping list. This is an editorial decision framework based on sources checked 16 October 2026, not a tested complete build.
